Any advice appreciated. Diagnosed diabetic 6 months, coeliac 13 years. Was given chocolate mints at Christmas, diabetic, no gluten ingredients, result was symptoms of glutening. I am strict with my diet, cannot tolerate codex. However this time I developed a rash on arms and legs, severe itching. Saw GP yesterday said it was DH. No treatment just to keep skin moisturised 4x daily with E45. Told me off for eating gluten. Any advice what else I can do? Any help appreciated. marie

I can totally sympathise with anyone suffering from DH, the constant itching is unbearable! I have been gluten free for 5 years now but still occasionally get outbreaks, the cause of which I can't pin point. With a bad outbreak I resort to ice packs which numbs the skin and allows me to get a little sleep at night. With a minor outbreak
Some calamine lotion works for a few hours.

Hi Marie
I went on a strict GF diet and still had the DH, I didn't find any creams that helped me and used to take 1 x 50mg dapsone tablet once or twice a week which was a god send.
After totally giving up dairy I have found the rash is much better, i still have flare ups but nothing too bad and i am off the dapsone.
I know it is a pain but try giving up dairy for a while and see if you notice any difference. It wasn't just the rash that improved in my case, I felt much better after giving it up. Now I find if I have cream or cheese I get a migraine that lasts up to 4 days.
If you are on Facebook there is a closed group about DH and there were numerous people on the page who were gf but still had the rash.
Hope this is helpful.

If you've been told to use E45 then E45 wash is very good too. Use it in the shower instead of shower gel - but watch you don't slip as it makes the shower tray very slippery!

Keep the skin cool and if it persists ask the GP for a topical steroid called Elocon - it's brilliant stuff. My DH went away but sometimes flares up a bit if I get hot and sweaty on my bike and am wearing a winter top. I try not to use the Elocon but when I do one small application blitzes the DH.

I started to get DH after 18yrs of diagnosis CD. I have found that it's a process of elemination. Blue Cheese /Codex/various Savory biscuits. I now don't buy these things. However I get Genius Bread on Prescription that suits me. I also use the cream Mometasone Furate on prescription which is excellent.By reading posts here quite a few CD people have DH although a GF diet suppose to be the answer to both

Oh dear, you poor thing.
Its a miserable state and I dread ever having it again. That's why I'm hanging onto my jar of 'Dermacool' menthol in aqueous cream which I was finally prescribed by my GP after he'd wasted pounds and pounds of money on rubbish.
It nearly drove me mad, I had it all over - trunk, arms, legs (fortunatly not on my face)and I couldn't sleep .........
I don't recommend this, but one night I got out of bed and stood in the shower and rubbed myself all over with neat bleach (it stung a bit) but Oh the relief of having it hurt rather than itch enables me to sleep that night.
Slathered on the E45 next morning though!!
(I think itching all over would make an excellent form of torture ............. )

I had a reaction to a medication and had severe itching, I had some Liz Earle Orange botanical bath wash, and it was the only thing that soothed it for a little while but I did end up having 2 or 3 baths a day just to calm the itch.
