Totally gluten-free hotel or restaurant? Please tell me one exists!

on 4/1/2014,
... I would love to go on holiday and have total peace of mind that my 7 year old coeliac (who is super sensitive) will not be accidentally poisoned.
The past two years have consisted of self catering holidays but this year I'd like a break from the kitchen
Please can someone help??
Wish list: somewhere child-friendly with an adventure park/ swim pool etc to keep the kids entertained and somewhere sunny too. Preferably not a cruise(I may be asking too much now!). Even if there is a 100% GF restaurant rather than a hotel, we could stay close by and eat there all the time....

If you want to go to the Lake District try St.John's Lodge in Windermere. It is B and B only but you can rest assured that you will be fine with the meals. I went last year (sounds odd saying last year! I went in November). It is run by ex NHS who are aware of gluten free diet and cross contamination. They keep everything separate in the kitchen. I am sensitive (can't even have oats)and I was fine and the breakfasts are fantastic, very wide range of options - all separate gluten free menus. I hope to go again. I think the address and details are on the supplementary board. If you want to go on a cruise I tried Royal Caribbean last year and they catered well for gluten free. I wasn't ill at all. Gluten free menu to pick from the night before so they know in advance, and individual attention from the head waiter to put my mind at rest. I am going again this year.

I posted the same question on facebook and I've copied and pasted the responses I received below in the interests of sharing info. I removed the names of people who posted (so that hopefully they don't mind) and just numbered the comments. I hope others find this useful and please do continue to post to this thread if you find a hidden GF gem somewhere :
1)Suntopia hotels in Turkey. I'm super sensitive also, all was wonderful. I also have a 7 and 3 year old who loved it there. Pegasus royal. The food was label with crossed grain you could have. The chefs cooked some items in front of you and if something wasn't suitable they made me things. Breakfast was fresh fruit and omelet made to my liking daily. The kids club was brilliant and the site itself was brilliant. Lots of pools, slides and was all inclusive. The onsite shops sold snacks including gf crisps, sweets etc.
2) In the back of the coeliac magazine there are hotels/holiday places that cater for gluten free only.
3) El piano restaurant in York is totally gluten free if you want a uk city break. Also dairy free/vegan.
4)There is a place in Dordogne, France that does gluten free holidays I enquired once but didn't go abroad in the end. They do coeliac weeks and it all sounds very nice. It's chateau Dr villars won't let me post link and they are sponsored by juvela I think
5)I don't know if you've considered but I've found cruises really helpful for seeing lots of places but also safe gf eating. Would recommend P&O (their Ventura and Acura big ships cater well for kids and have special kids clubs and kids entertainment crew) and MSC have special GF menu at every meal. Hope this helps x
6) I have been to butlins and they are very good. Chef Will cook your food and give you a menu to chose from. Have been twice and have had no ill effects.

If you decide to go to Whitby, contact the Walrus and the Carpenter in advance. They seem to close for a day if they feel like it.
On their website they used to state that their closing day was "either Monday or Tuesday" but then they said they would be open every day during the school summer holidays. I sent my son to check it out during the holidays, and he found that it was closed. He's not GF so it was OK, but I would have been very mad if I had found it closed!!
There is a good fish and chip place in Whitby too - the Magpie, and if you fancy Scarborough there is the Norlands Hotel. Not totally GF, but coeliac proprietor

Watching with interest, as I would like to find the same thing - a child-friendly hotel in the sun, where my coeliac kids can enjoy themselves and eat safely!
HF Holidays (they advertise on the Coeliac UK website) have 3 hotels abroad which they say can cater for the coeliac diet.
I found this on Google - seems to be a hotel in Lanzarote which is offering a special coeliac food service. Looks interesting and geared up for kids. www.playasenator.com/en/experiencias/gastronomia/

I would suggest looking at Gilli's Holidays, I booked with them once & was *extremely* well catered for.
