Pasta? Sorry, but I'll have to pass, says Leicester Tigers star

Leicester Tigers international Martin Castrogiovanni has discovered he is allergic to his country's national dish – pasta.
The Italian international made the discovery after going for tests when he returned from the Six Nations championships struggling to maintain his ideal weight and complaining of lethargy.
Blood tests revealed the Italian tighthead prop has coeliac disease, which comes from an intolerance to gluten.
Martin, 29, who also runs two Italian restaurants alongside his rugby career, was told to cut out the food groups which were causing him problems, such as wheat, rye and barley.....

One of the most recognisable men in rugby, Martin Castrogiovanni enters his seventh season as a Leicester Tiger in 2012/13. Born in Argentina, he moved to Italy to pursue his professional rugby career and made his international debut for the Azzurri against New Zealand in 2002. He has now played in three World Cups and is one of the most-capped players in the country’s history. He captained Italy for the first time in the summer of 2012, leading the team to tour wins over Canada and the USA. Known as ‘Castro’, the popular tighthead played against Tigers four times in his spell with Calvisano before landing at Welford Road in 2006. He passed 100 appearances for Tigers during 2010/11 and played in his third Premiership Final in 2012. Premiership Player of the Year in 2006/07, the first prop and first Italian to receive that honour, he also picked up EDF Energy Cup and Premiership winners’ medals in his debut season in England. He won a second Premiership title in 2009, though missed the final for a second time due to injury, and played in the Heineken Cup Final against Leinster at Murrayfield that year. Castro finally started a Premiership Final in 2010 as Tigers beat Saracens, and claimed the club’s Try of the Season award for his interception score against London Irish at Welford Road. He played in his second Premiership Final in 2011 before joining up with the Italian squad ahead of his third World Cup and was back in the Tigers ranks for a third Premiership Final at Twickenham in 2012. www.leicestertigers.com/rugby/leicester_tigers_senior_squad.php?player=7292&includeref=dynamic
