One up for the French Posted by Colin (London) on 29/8/2013 Gf board After spending time in the Matisse Museum in Le Cateaux-Cambresi (where he was born) in northern France we crossed the road for a meal in one of the restaurants. I ordered a salad and went through the rigmarole of No Croutons, No Pasta (just in case, you never know) the waitress said: "Have you an allergy?" When we said I had she said: "I'll tell the chef to exclude glutin." How about that. I could expect a response something like that in a posh restaurant in Nice but not in a far from prosperous but pleasant town in the north. The town's bigger claim to fame is that it is on the route of what, to my mind, is the greatest one-day cycle race in the world, the Paris-Roubaix, which includes cobbled agricultural tracks preserved as ancient monuments to retain the character of the event museematisse.cg59.fr/en/Home/tabid/640/Default.aspx**********************************
