Tenterden, Kent - great new find Posted by bizzimum on 27/7/2013, 17:04:15
Out in Tenterden today and saw that The Lemon Tree Tea Rooms(lovely old tudor building opposite town hall) has a sign in the window "New GF menu, please ask inside". Very pleasant surprise - we went in expecting it would be a few cakes and ended up having lunch there, unplanned but a nice treat as its our wedding anniversary. my 13 yr old coeliac daughter was beside herself not knowing what to choose - from warm cheese scones, fruit scones, various brownies and wrapped cookies etc, to delicious homemade lemon tart with summer berries and raspberry coulis, or soup of the day with GF Panini. When I queried how the Panini were warmed they told me they were done in a separate machine, and also knew enough to tell me they also grated their own cheese so there was no risk of it containing flour. They were very knowledgeable and very friendly. They have only been doing this a few months due to the number of people they were getting asking, and they use a local lady in the next village who has a little factory making GF (which is almost on my doorstep but I knew nothing about!). For those coming from Ashford, there is a bus stop right outside! A bit pricey but very very good. Only downside was that their fryer is not GF so she could not have the chips.
