I recently went to Edinburgh to celebrate a special birthday and found some excellent places to eat. So fantastic I have gained 4 pounds but it was all worth it. We stayed at the King's Manor in Portobello which can offer gf breakfasts and evening meals but we didn't try them so cannot comment but they did get me some gf biscuits on arrival so that's a plus in my book. There is a pizza hut delivery place also in Portobello which does gf pizza. Tastes so much nicer eating pizza sat on a sunny beach.
Day 1 - Afternoon tea at the Scotsman Hotel, such a special treat. Item s brought on a cake stand, sandwiches with genius bread. Followed by warm scones and some little cakes. Didn't look much but was quite filling in the end. £16.95 but worth it for a special occasion. Had to check it was gf it looked so good.
Vittorios on the bridge. Do pasta and pizza, I asked for a half and half and I got 2 small pizzas. I only paid for one but the pizzas are huge so maybe you get two anyway.
Day 2 - Hendersons on Hanover St, a few options, had a tortilla slice to take out was heated up and very nice . Followed by a huge slab of carrot cake in the Café W in Waterstones on Princes St. They had a carrot cupcake as well. Tea was at Wetherspoons off Rose St.
Day 3 - More pizza for lunch at Mamma's on Grassmarket. They had Greens lager too. I think this was my fave pizza of the 3 I had. Tea was at MacDonalds.
Day 4 - Stopped off in Carlisle on the way home and had fish and Chips at a place also called Mamma's but different people. Very nice chatty owner and good fish and chips.
Amongst all these places are the usual, Starbucks, etc but it was nice to try independants too. Also other cafes had Honeybun type cakes. Hope it is not my last visit to such a vibrant place......
