Hi, just wanted to share the good experiences I have found in both east & west Finland & also the Helsinki area. Labelling is very clear here with 'Gluteeniton' easily identified both on food products and in lots of cases the supermarket shelf next to the price, this is in addition to the Gluteeniton section of the supermarket and frozen food section. Main GF suppliers seem to be Semper, Finnax & Glutano & also supermarket own bread /cake suppliers. Supermarkets I have used are Prisma, Sale & K Citymarket. The finnish burger chain - Hesburger serve a cheeseburger in GF bun & fries (the bun can be a little tough if overcooked! but as I haven't eaten this type of meal for years it was great to order it!)The fries are cooked seperatly in large branches just need to check if a small branch.
McDonalds also offer a GF meal but I haven't tried this yet. Pizza Chain - Rosso do a lovely GF pizza with a large selection of toppings and again larger branches offer GF bread to go with the salad cart (this is kept in the kitchen behind). If you are in Rauma west Finland, I can recommend Parilla steak house, good menu choices & lovely GF bread with olives & garlic mayo for starters .
There are several GF beers in the supermarkets (again advertised on the shelf with the price)sorry can't remember the names but can get them if needed for anyone - am going to start looking to see if served in pubs.
Most resturant menus clearly adverise GF food with a G and also lactose free (LF)food. I have been here for a few months now and have not had a bad experinece in a resturant when enquiring about GF products - staff if unsure will always get a senior person to check & you are never made to feel you are askling for something out of the ordinary!
Also Finnair flights, if you sign up for Finnair plus (air mile reward system - free to join) you will be provided with a GF snack during flights from London - Helsinki. Hope this helps anyone visiting the area.
