Posted by MSG on 19/2/2011, 18:54:50 Froggy et al. state that GF cakes are not and never have been available on prescription. According to NHS data, the following were prescribed in 2009: 275 Lifestyle G/F Battenburg cakes at £10.71 per item 65 Lifestyle GF Madeira cakes at £5.68 per item 72 Lifestyle GF Rich Fruit cakes at £9.06 per item 153 Lifestyle Sweet Pancakes at £6.05 per item One item is not necessarily one cake. I have no time to analyse now, so check this for yourselves: Source: www.ic.nhs.uk/statistics-and-data-collections/primary-care/prescriptions/prescription-cost-analysis-england--2009

I am amazed at MSG's post above. In all my 33 years of being diagnosed I've never seen cakes available on prescription. You can see why non-coeliacs get cross about us having "food" on prescription and it all adds fuel to the PCT's restrictions. There must be some very generous doctors around to sign the prescriptions in the first place. I think coeliacs who requested such cakes were taking a liberty.

We used to get a pretty decent lemon cake on prescription - one day, it vanished off our repeats.
