There is an alternative to Fresubin & Fortusip being removed from prescription - you buy it your self; the same as coeliacs will have to do if certain food items are taken away.
I was wondering if they are going to start cutting GF food items from prescription, are they also going to start cutting other people's food items from prescription? What about baby formula milk, PKU prescriptions (As Lyn suggested) - maybe other "food/drink" items? (I don't know if any other "food" items for other conditions are prescribable?)
If they are going to cut one, surely they should be cutting all - why single out Coeliacs?
I am not inferring that they cut ANY of these food items from prescribables, gluten free or otherwise - they need to re-look at it and maybe reduce monthly allowances if it helps and remove biscuits/cake mixes as CUK are suggesting.
What about the Government looking at the costs of wasted medication? For example, in a Nursing Home where there are prescribed medications kept for the residents. If a resident dies, the medication has to be taken away and destroyed EVEN un-opened, un-used medication because it has already been prescribed for a certain person. Now if this is done in nursing homes & hospitals up & down the country, just how much wastage is there? Surely the Government should be looking at this type of blatant wasteage and try to address this sort of practice somehow?
