I think that gf prescribing should continue as there is a lot of people that could not afford the extra cost of gf food especially in the economic climate we are in. I myself would find it difficult and im sure there are lots of people worse off than me. There is a limit of units you can have and this stops people having too much. On the other hand if you are able to afford the extra cost of gf food easily then you have the choice of buying it if you wish.

I agree entirely with you Alison. We have our GF Bread, Pasta & occasional flours on prescription & maximum 3 packs biscuits a month for 3 coeliacs. We often treat ourselves to "extras" such as Tesco Fresh bread rolls but we would struggle to have to buy bread regularly for 3 people at minimum £2-£3 per loaf. With the size of loaves available on prescription for 3 people for sandwiches & toast with breakfast, during school term time/work days, we often use 1 loaf of bread a day. At weekends, when there is more time for cooking etc, we hardly eat bread.
Personally speaking, me & my husband pay our taxes (and have done all our working life), claim no benefits and pay for prescriptions so I really do not feel guilty about ordering GF bread/pasta/flour/biscuits for medical reasons.
As a footnote to this, I think that the whole method of prescriptions should be re-vamped. Rather than the small minority paying the £7.20 prescription fee, why not lower the cost and get anyone having a prescription pay?

Oh well I suppose we will just have to get used to it because it willspread across the country. Just a thought but cost of living is up by 5% pensions are not and now no prescribable foods, guess who will suffer most (anyone who is on a low income). Even if we make our own bread etc GF flours and other baking additives are more expensive than normal ones.
