Great Gluten Free Holiday (Shame about the Air Line)

Well just back from my Mediterrainean cruise. Went with Celebrity Cruises on their Flag ship the Millenium. Had a wonderfull time and the food was excellent. On the 1st night the evening meal was an open sitting, but all I had to do was tell the waiter my sistuation and he got the Maitra d' and he told me what items I could have etc. I was told I didn't have to order my meals in advance, but he let me look at the following evenings menu and pre-order for the second night. He took the number of my set table so he could discuss with my normal waiter. It was all so easy, I'd sit down to dinner he'd tell me what I could have and my Gluten Free bread would be brought to the table. This was the same for Breakfast and Lunch. I even used the buffet restaurant a few times with out problems, if there wasn't anything on the buffet that I could have they'd get something cooked specially for me.
We only ate out on one trip that was to Rome, we looked for the GF Restaurants but the one we chose had changed hands and they didn't seem particularly friendly. So we went to the colesseum and sat at the restaurant there handed the waitress, the dietry card and she was so helpful.
The only problem was air france the one GF meal they were able to order for me did not appear, luckily this was on the way there and I'd packed some sandwiches. On the way home all I had to eat was some GF biscuits and crackers that I'd packed. Couldn't find anything in Barcelona airport or Charles de gualle to add to my snacks so was rather hungry when I got home. Luckily I'h had a big breakfast on the ship.
....Royal Caribean and Celebrity are the same company now, but as my travel agent said celebrity is a slight notch up. There were really attentive and helpful. The itinerary we had was fantastic, Venice, Dubrovnik, Athens, Santorini, Naples, Rome, Florence/Pisa, Villefrance, and Barcelona. The itenery going the other way varioes slightly as they go to Mykinos instead of Santorini. I could believe how big the ship was its a 91000 tonne one. We were in port at the same time as a couple of other ships, Princess Cruises and Royal Caribean's Legend of the seas and was suprised at how much smaller they looked.
....Also Newcastle Airport
Tried to get something to eat in the airport when we landed, as I was starving by then. Ouside of Departures the only places to get food were Greggs and costa coffee place. Greggs is a bakers and just sells sandwiches and pies, costa just seemed to have cakes and things like that, but I did ask if they had anything and they didn't even have a clue what Gluten was. .....

.....I had the same problem last Feb with Monarch Airlines and my P&O cruise, I went 24 hours without food - lunch on board then nothing at Barbados airport and nothing on the flight back to Gatwick - I ran for my cereals the moment I got home! so I know how you felt!
