How to be "gluten-free" in Norway
Welcome to the website of The Norwegian Coeliac Society.
If you are planning to visit Norway, we hope this information will help you
to be gluten-free in our country.
Which restaurants offer gluten-free food?
McDonald's and Burger King makes gluten-free hamburgers on request.
At Peppes Pizza, Dolly Dimple's and Egon Restaurants they can make gluten-free pizza.
You will find these restaurants in cities all over Norway. However,
there is normally no problem to have a gluten-free meal (dinner) in other restaurants.
The Scandic Hotels often have gluten-free bread and good information about gluten-free
food...........
Where to buy gluten-free products?
In Norway you can buy ordinary gluten-free flour in most ordinary groceries.
Usually you will also find some rice cookies there.
But we recommend mostly the "health-food" shops ("helsekostbutikker" in Norwegian).
Translations:
hvete = wheat
bygg = barley
rug = rye
havre = oat
