Just come back from a business trip to Hong Kong and Taiwan. Having been diagnosed with Coeliac disease last year I was a little concerned as to how easy it would be to eat out there. Stayed at the Conrad Hotel HK and notified them of my dietary requirements by sending a translation I had got done. The funny thing is they came back and asked for it in English!! They were brilliant. When arrived it seemed that every restaurant in the hotel new who I was, and had been briefed as to my requirements. Also within 10mins of checking in, the hotel manager came up to my room with his business card telling me that everything had been arranged with the restaurants and room service was no problem, any queries to contact him direct. Also as being on business it was necessary to eat elsewhere, I went to several restaurants without previous notification which included an indian, thai, and western barbeque restaurant. They were incredible and did there upmost to make sure all was OK. I even saw the chef in several of the restaurants who tailored the menu for me. Also went to a Fish bar at the Marriot Hotel and the service was execptional. I had notified them the day before so when I arrived the head chef came out and informed me that they had separately packed one piece of every fresh fish that had come in that morning and had prepared an area in the kitchen, with a new pan to pan fry the fish. He also showed me a protocol that the Marriot hotel had issued on all requirements for different diets. I have to say the service out in Hong Kong was far better then what I have ever received in the UK. Nothing seems to be to much trouble and they certainly put me at ease. I would definately recommend it to anyone who is thinking of visiting.
