Gluten Free Brazil

GF board
...... I have just returned from a 2 week holiday in Brazil and had to let you all know of my fantastic GF experience. We stayed in hotels in both Rio for 4 nights and then Praia do Forte for 10 nights.
I took a translation card with me and found that although no one spoke very good English, they all understood the card and managed to help advise what i could and couldn't have.
I have to say that if you are a vegetarian Brazil is probably not the best place to go as they eat large quantities of meat. In a typical Brazilian restaurant you pay a set price and then help yourselves to the biggest buffet i have ever seen. Lots of Salad, vegetables, rice, potatoes, fish etc and then once you have piled your plate up with all of that they start coming round to your table with different joints of meat. They have every thing - steak, chicken, lamb, pork etc and just keep coming round until you cannot eat any more! I ate more steak in those 2 weeks than I have ever eaten before, but was the best GF holiday food by far. So much fresh veg, salad, rice and plain meat.
The other fantastic thing about Brazil is that everything is labeled whether it contains Gluten, even the bottled water states it is gluten free! I think I checked just about every food label I could as I was so surprised at how good the labeling was. I went into a couple of health food shops in Rio and they all sold gluten free bread, pasta etc.
All in all a good GF holiday with no Gluten accidents!
