Hi everyone,
I just got back from a vacation in Dubai. A few points to note:
1. Emirates Airlines - Gluten free meals were served on both legs of the journey - they was fantastic - lifestyle bread rolls, rice cakes, grilled chicken with veg and potatoes, fruit salad. Return journey was steak, potatoes and veg followed by GF afternoon tea!
2. Burj Al Arab - This is that hotel that's shaped like a sail and has rated itself 7*. I booked afternoon tea here - gluten free of course, also fantastic..they served gf sandwiches, gf pastries followed by gf scones (two types!) with clotted cream and jam. Couldn't move afterwards. Highly recommended. If you do get the opportunity to go in the future - ensure your reservation is in the Skyview bar (at the top!).
3. Tons of restaurants to choose from within Dubai - very much like in London. Only problem I encountered was in an Italian restaurant where they couldn't cook my pasta...but there were other options on the menu. Aside from that, I ate in a lot of lebanese/indian/thai/indonesian restaurants where the food is often rice based.
4. Supermarket called 'Spinneys' which caters to expats. Tons of GF products available including products from Australia that I don't think are available in the UK (e.g. Decadent Alternatives Cookies - yum). . Also, Crimbles cookies/cakes, Barkat and Glutafin bread and baguettes and pitta breads. It really brightened up my day to see these products on sale. They were dotted around the supermarket (there wasn't a dedicated GF section) so always best to spend some time browsing.
Hope this helps anyone planning a vacation.
Best wishes,
Saira
