The Crown Hotel on Drummond Road, Skegness has a chef who is happy to cater for Coeliacs. I usually pop in and see her to book a meal, and sometimes I've taken my own pasta to be cooked and put with their sauce. However, yesterday evening a group arrived for a meal without booking, told the owner who was at the bar that one of their number was Coeliac and the reply was "No problem".

GF board
We have just come back from a week at Butlins(skegness). We go half board and they always seem to bend over backwards to accomodate our GF 3 yr old. They have GF gravy and even sent someone to the local supermarket when they realised on the first morning we were there that there was no GF cereal. we gave them a pizza base and they made him a pizza, they kept it on a dinner plate and grilled it because didn't want to chance it in an oven. Philip enjoyed it!!! we gave them pasta and they did him meals with that. Nothing was too much trouble. A big thumbs up from me

Gf board
Went to Skegness and to my own suprise only visited Poppys once. The last time i was at Skegness i lived there. Only went in for breakfast 2 gf breakfasts and 2 normal breakfasts for £15 with tea and coffees.
Ate ton's on the resort everywhere was brilliant. Buffet Breakfasts with the usual GF stuff and loads of help when i asked. If i wanted bacon from the back they were happy to do this. The chef came out and spoke to me his wife and kid's have coeliacs so said he'd do anything i wanted gf gravy's etc.
We went as a family of 5 to a character lunch where charachters like Bob the Builder and Angelina Ballerina come along while your having lunch. This was in the top restraunt on the resort and they had warning that we were coming though when we turned up they'd only been told of my daughter's coeliac's and not mine. No problem though they go us both Tomato Soup (From the taste i'd say Heinz) and were happy to get us more if we wanted. We then went up to pick mains and the chef and manager escorted us around and told us everything we could have and how they could change it around. My daughter had hot dog's and chips and i had chicken veg and chips with gravy. The chef went off to make the gravy and chips and brought this over to our table. Meals were great though gravy was quite lumpy i was still happy with it. One mistake though they came over with a hot dog for my daughter and had put the hot dog in a hot dog roll the waiteress hadn't realised and just went and put it on the roll but this was quickly sorted and they kept apologising for this. There was ham, cheese and ice cream also available which were all gf. As well as salads. Was told by the manager that if we come for an evening meal they'd need 24 hours notice they'd have us in during the day to go over everything and know all the staff so on the night there'd be no fuss we'd go around like anybody else and not feel like we're any different. Food is made fresh in front of you also which is good, unfornately they had a huge party of war vetrens there that week so we had no chance at all of going in the evening or for breakfast but definately liked the sound of this restraunt on the resort.
We spent most of the rest of the week in the 2nd top food restraunt and had no problems despite me being super sensitive.
As a result i never really went anywhere else even though some of the suggestions on here sounded great wish i was there longer and able to take them in
On another note went to Alton Towers they were quite helpful for gf and referred me to the BBQ grill for food and the staff were very helpful but for the prices meals were tiny and food was very poor. Ordered a rump steak and got frying steak.
Little Frankies (FRank and bennys) in Skegness was also a big let down nothing compared to the restraunt in Newcastle. Took over 50 minutes for the food to come and it was so small i'd have been better eating a fruit bag. My daughters meal consisted of a small burger and a spoonful of smash. When we complained we got nowhere

We went to Skegness to visit friends 8 weeks ago. I am coeliac and the four of us went to Poppies for dinner. The staff were not particularly friendly and the menu didn't contain any surprises like gluten free steak and kidney pie. The gluten free menu had a curry on it so I had that. Like I say, no surprises. Gammon and chips should be gluten free. So should steak. Gluten free cod in batter would have been good. The curry was mediocre and the portion was miserable. The surprise - it came with a tiny puppodum that was gluten free. Wow!

We who live in Skegness like Popppies cos there aint many gf eateries in this town!! The best place by far is the Crown Hotel on Drummond Road, Skegness. They have a policy of not being fazed by any dietary problem. I often eat there - in the bar - have had chicken breast stuffed with parma ham in a white wine sauce. Last time I eat there a few weeks back I had the chicken without the ham but opted for the white wine sauce. That was my choice not something they pushed at me! I eat there some months ago with my family (9 of us) and they apologised because my meal came with the last batch - I was told they held cooking mine back because they didn't want to contaminate it! Now that's service and understanding of the condition

Christopher's Cafe & Tea Rooms at 8, Lumley Avenue, Skegness (01754 761010) One of the ladies who works there is coeliac herself, so there always seems to be gluten free cake on offer

…… I went last year for the first time being CD i struggled to find stuff on the resort though i did manage a baked potatoe etc. or the usual snacky stuff you can buy out of the shops.
However there is a restraunt in Skegness called Poppys it does take-aways as well i fell in love with this place and went nearly every night the food is brilliant the manager has CD so nearly everything on the menu is GF or can be made GF they even have GF Yorkshire puddings and good GF cake and custard
I was buying take-aways from here and no lie there was loads i was getting for example a container of braising steak and gravy. A portion of Chips in another container and in another container veg. And an extra portion of gravy it was only costing me about £2 it was brilliant wish i could run such a wonderful restraunt.
************
It is on the road out of Skegness but not too far from the resort.
Cant remember the exact adderess but when your coming from the resort towards the town there is a Harbour Restraunt you go right at the lights there and just follow the road out to the country and you'll come accross it.
I had a huge list but unfornately cant find it of places around the area. There are a few people on here from Skegness though so they'll be able to help you a lot better …
There is a g/f chip shop nearby also it was quite good but we waited until getting back to the caravan before eating so was a bit cold and i got put off by the skin on the fish …
Heres an adderess and phone number for poppys you can phone in advance and order food no problem :L…

I found a lovely place to eat between burgh le marsh and skegness last week. It is called Poppies diner (previously called The Winning Post Restaurant) Poppies Diner Burgh Road Skegness PE24 4UF (01754) 898111
(Just past the Southview Park Hotel on the oposite side if you are driving away from Skegness)
One of the ladies who works there, i think she is the manager,is coeliac. She has made a huge gf menu, including a cooked breakfast, a few starters, about 12 main courses and several desserts. There is a whole range of main course and there are homemade gf yorkshire puddings and chips available. The lady who is coeliac, has obviously educated the rest of the staff. She was very helpful and we had a lovely meal. Highly recommended!

Posted by Jill(Skegness) on 21/6/2011, 13:03:50 I think the Caxton House Hotel in Skeg is B&B, however, just along the road, on Drummond Road, Skegness is the Crown Hotel who is happy to cater for all diets - I eat in there quite a lot and it's fine. Another place is Poppy's just outside Skeg on the A158 where they have a gf section of the menu and also one of the waitresses is Coeliac. Another place I have just discovered but not tried yet is Wolfie's Wine Bar by the clock tower - they have just issued a new menu and have gf dishes marked. They are also offering gf baguettes and rolls!!!!! It might be called a "Wine Bar" but it is a restaurant. Be aware, Josh's Mum, Tescos and Morrisons in town are hopeless for GF food and the Co-Op seems not to know what it's all about!! Sainsbury's at Spilsby is a bit better, but not much, so any favourites I would suggest bringing with you!! I do my gf shopping on the net at Asda which is good or splurge when I'm feeling flush and drive to Lincoln to Waitrose (oh joy - I think I've died and gone to heaven there - sad isn't it!!) www.caxton-house.com/skegness-hotel-dining.htmlwww.skegness-golf.co.uk/www.gluten-free-onthego.com/restaurantDisplay.aspx?restaurantID=4761www.wolfieswinebar.co.uk/

Re: skegness Posted Jill on 27/5/2006 ..... Christopher's Tearooms on Lumley Avenue (just off the main shopping street of Lumley Road) - one of the ladies there is Coeliac and usually has a gf cake on offer. There is also a cafe - almost a shed(!) in a garden at the far north end of the sea front road where gf muffins are available I believe. If you want a meal, the best place I've found is the Crown Hotel on Drummond Road. They do bar meals as well as having a proper restaurant. I went there recently without forewarning them and when I said I was Coeliac the reply was "no problem, we can do something for you". I had fresh salmon with salad and peach pavlova for pud!! The chef there is very clued up. That's about it, I'm afraid! It's all fish and chips here!!!!

Cafes/resstaurants in Skegness area Posted by Jill(Skegness) on 29/1/2013, 12:10:30
Hello - an update on the GF options in Skegness --- Wolfies (opposite the clock tower) and Williams bar and restaurant (Lumley Road) are owned by the same people and have GF options on their menus - plus Williams has a dedicated fat fryer so can do chips and is willing to do battered fish in it as well!!
Lucky Strike - (Grand Parade) is a 2 storey amusement arcade and has a restaurant on the 2nd floor - they are GF aware - I had leek and potato soup in a bowl I could have taken a swim in(!) but there was no bread available so they are not 'there' yet - but there are other GF food options. A bit different eating out in an amusement arcade but the kids would love it!!!!
And there is Poppy's on the A158 just outside Skegness.
So the town is offering more than fish and chips and burgers etc - GFdom is arriving!!!

eating out in Skegness Gf board Posted by susan on 18/12/2013 I know there is an really good eating place called Poppies on the outskirts of Skegness but I think there is also a hotel/pub in Skegness that caters for Coeliacs. I am super sensitive and get very nervous about eating out so would like to hear from anyone who has tried somewhere in Skegness and found it to be very good. Also would I need to phone before going? Many thanks for any help you can give me *** Posted by Alex on 20/12/2013 I've never been, but the Lincs Coeliac Society held their Christmas lunch year (and I think other years too!) at the The Royal Hotel in Skegness - so they much be pretty good for catering GF! www.theroyalhotelskegness.co.uk/contact.html**************** Posted by DMC59 on 19/12/2013 There is Wolfies by the Clock Tower that indicates GF on their menu. They have a sister pub up Lumley Road (where the shops are) which I haven't been in but I have heard they do GF as well. They are near Clarks the shoe shop. Pizza Hut is in Skegness which do GF.

Recommendations in Linclonshire
Posted by Pam,Dorset on 9/8/2019, 22:41:13 Just back from a week in Lincolnshire where I found a few places to be recommended. In Cleethorpes Papas Fish and chip restaurant on the pier was excellent. I also noticed, but didn’t try, another one in Skegness which I think was called the Atlantic. It was just up from the clock tower on the sea front the first turning on the left and had a big gf menu on the wall. In Lincoln the cathedral cafe had a choice of FIVE gluten free homemade cakes, and only one of them was a chocolate brownie! Also in Lincoln the Ole Ole Tapas bar was absolutely brilliant as most of the menu is gf and they were very aware, there was even a choice of about 3 puds, apart from the inevitable ice cream.

Re: Recommendations in Linclonshire
Posted by Jules on 10/8/2019, 14:11:09, in reply to "Recommendations in Linclonshire" We visit Cleetorpes quite frequently, mainly for the GF restaurants I can also recommend Steels fish & chip restaurant in the Town.Figs restaurant is good for GF(also a little up market) and the coach house is excellent ( just outside Cleethorpes on Fieldhouse road Humberston) we have been many times and it never disappoints.
