Posted by Margret on 9/10/2004 GF board Benidorm, Spain - Thomas Cook Airlines Had a lovely gluten free meal on both journey's with thomas cook airlines. This was the best gluten free meals that i have had on any airlines as on others you don't get a proper meal. I have been on aircrafts where there has been no gluten free meals. We stayed at the marina hotel the meals were buffet service which was excellent. If there was nothing that i liked they would make me somthing that i liked. the staff were realy helpfull and new about gluten free food. we had a great time at the hotel.I would recommend this hotel to everyone. we liked it that much that we are booked up to go back next year www.fact-index.com/t/th/thomas_c ... lines.html www.holidayhotels.com/hotel.php? ... a%20Blanca)%20

...Next time you visit Benidorm, you must eat at Chinese restaurant China Town (Calle d'esperanto 10) in center of Benidorm. Between 19.00 and 21.00 the owner mister Shejja Ho (Who speaks english very good) advice you choosing the gf menu. (Except Thursday) After 21.00 the kitchen is not GF because too many guests. Mister Shejja Ho personally stays in the kitchen watching the cook !!!

GF board
I have just returned from a week in Albir near Benidorm.
I was very impressed with the supermarkets which clearly mark a lot of their food with 'sin gluten' which is really helpful!
I (had) Estrela Damm gluten free beer which was a real treat as I havent had beer for 17 years
I was amazed to find a bread shop that had a notice in the window in spanish which said 'pain pora coeliacos'. I got frozen baguettes from this shop, which were absolutely lovely! I made sandwiches with them for the journey back and they were moist and tasty! The spanish seem way ahead of us! Its a pity we cant get frozen baguettes here, as they were much nicer than long life bread…
….shopped in Albir for food, but at Mercadona and Mendoza supermarkets they had food marked 'sin gluten'However, the beer was only in the Mercadona supermarket. I am sure there will be one in Benidorm as it is massive!
The bread shop in Albir is called Calentito and is on the right hand side as you walk away from the end of the beach. It is before you get to the Mercadona supermarket, nearer the Consum supermarket. The sign is in the window, and you need to use the spanish phrasing as the English was not so good. I think it is a chain of bread shops because the bag says Alicante.
We didnt try many restaurants as we found a fabulous indians called Sarita. The staff spoke English and I would highly recommend the dansak, and the sag aloo, best indians I have ever had. We ate their three nights! once at the thai restaurant, which I thought would be good, but they only gave me one option, and a steak restaurant on the seafront, which I was not too impressed with.
