......generally Spain seem to be very good as far as awareness goes. Troy and I went to Tenerife last October and have recently got back from Mijas (halfway between Malaga and Mabella on the Cotsa de Slob!!) and had absolutely no trouble sorting out gf meals for Troy. A quick explanation to the waiter and/or chef and a multitude of choices was put before us every time. One thing to bear in mind is that most Spanish people do not deep fry anything other than chips, they prefer to grill - so as long as you can establish that the chips themselves are gf - then a you'll never go hungry!! The Spanish phrase on the sup board is a useful thing to take with you. We found that the English own establishments were far more clued up about it all than here in England itself. Now I wonder why that is??

Mijas - how nice. Did you visit the dolly in the cave?!
There's a town near there called AlhaurÃn el Grande which has a bakery which bakes the most delicious GF bread and rolls to order. It's called El Colmenero. There are lots of branches but the bread is baked at the one on Calle Cruz.
Just thought you might like to know in case you ever go back to that area.

Holiday at the Bitacora

Gf board
I have just returned from a holiday in Tenerife staying at the Hotel Bitacora in Las Americas to celebrate my in - laws Diamond wedding. On the first night the head waiter took me round the buffet table and helped with choice of meals. He was available to ask about any dish I was unsure of and even offered me gluten free bread, pasta and even offered to make me my own soup which I did not take him up on as there was plenty to eat. On the night of the anniversary he made crepes for the family and without any prompting made flambe bananas for me. I was very impressed. There were at least another 5 Coeliacs in the hotel at the time.

..... When you are there you can apply for a Spring card (It is a Spring Hotel) which gives you 15% off your bill at the end of your holiday saves quite a bit on drinks, snacks etc. Also once you have a card you can book directly with the hotel and get better rates, book a low cost flight and they send a taxi to the airport to pick you up. Saves quite a bit. The head waiter is Arsenio and he and the other more senior waiters couldn't have been more helpful and very friendly.
