I went on a 7 day Thomson Cruise this time last year in fact. When booking the cruise I informed them that I was a coeliac and was assured it would not be a problem. On going to the restaurant for the first time I spoke to the head waiter who asked my name and cabin number. My dietary needs were noted. At every evening meal time the head waiter came over and presented me with a menu for the following day so that I could view the menu and select my choices. If there wasnt anything I liked they adapted the meal. I was also asked every day if I would like gluten free bread with my evening meal which they also toasted for me. Nothing was too much trouble. I also used the more casual dining areas for a lunchtime meal or snack and there was always something I could eat. Very impressed. ……

I had a brilliant time on the Celebration two years ago. There were eight coeliacs on board and we had a special gf menu. I chose not to order the night before as I wanted choice 'on the day' and it was no bother most of the time. I ate all evening meals and breakfast in the restaurant and on one occasion was told I could not have the gravy as it was not gf. I insisted that if they were quite capable of providing all gf gravy in the self-service, then they could easily provide it in the restaurant. They did!
Initially, there was nothing for afternoon tea for the coeliacs but when this was highlighted, they made biscuits and cakes for us.
I didn't know any of the coeliacs on board but we somehow gravitated to each other! We all noticed a marked improvement in their gf catering over the two weeks and it was all down to talking to the Maitre'D and Head Chefs....

As promised, the report from the Dream in Caribbean.
Different itinerary from the last visit in 2011...different ship too. The Dream is more modern.
Reasonable flights with g/f food available. Lovely spaceous cabin, easy access for my sister.
Wall to wall sunshine with a couple of tropical showers...but it didnt stop the fun.
Food wise ..the following days menu was presented at dinner, with my being cheeky and requesting alternative desserts..all of which arrived. Not even I can eat icecream for evening dessert every night...
Lunch in the Sirens restaurant..just took the usual sensible precautions.
Cleaning and housekeeping team were vigilant and attentive to details.

We found a letter in our cabin upon arrival asking me to make myself known to the Head Waiter in the Meridian Restaurant. He was so nice and assured me that I would be catered for well - and he was right
There were 3 restaurants. The Lido was mainly a self service restaurant with many different sections - everything from buffet food, hot food, icecream parlour, stirfry bar, fruit bar, afternoon teas, burger bar etc etc.
The Minstral's A La Carte Restaurant charged you nearly £20 per person to eat there. We did not go ourselves but heard that the meals were very good. Very nice for a special occasion.
We ate 3 times at the Lido (and although I was never ill and took advice from the main Chef I was not convinced that the Waiting Staff were 100% clued up on the gluten free diet as one tried recommending the couscous to me and another just said 'bread' when I mentioned gluten free. It would be great if all foods available in the Lido Restaurant had a gluten free symbol on as it would stop people having to go and speak to the Head Chef.
I felt much more at ease eating in the Meridian Restaurant as they had a special gluten free menu which was full of choice and the Waiting Staff began to bring you the gluten free menu after a couple of days without you even having to ask for it! I tried so many new foods during the week and did not have one bad meal - more importantly I did not get any tummy troubles
I am not sure what brand of gluten free bread they use on the ship but I think it is white DS although I could be wrong. It was fine despite the fact that it was only toasted on one side (I am sure that they would of done both sides if I had asked but it really was not a problem)
It was lovely sharing a table with other couples and we got to meet a lot of people. I met 8 other Coeliacs and a few other people who had relatives who follow a gluten free diet. One of the Coeliacs that I met I already knew as she lives in my home town but I had no idea that she was a Coeliac
The size of the meals are small - but you get so many courses at each meal that we were never hungry.
Two mistakes were made during our week: 1 - Regular croutons were sprinkled on my soup 2 - a gluten wafer was placed on top of my icecream - but as soon as the meals were placed in front of me the Waiter instantly realised the mistakes and took them away and replaced them.
We thoroughly enjoyed our week and can recommend Thomson Cruises to anyone.

Have just come back from 2 weeks on the Thomson Celebration - this is our 3rd time on the ship & it just keeps getting better! We were so well catered for with the GF diet; we had our own GF menu in the main dining room both for breakfast & dinner (didn't eat there at lunchtime but I am sure there would have been one there too!)
As well as the usual GF bread & toast, we had GF pancakes for breakfast, bread & butter pudding, GF pasta & we took our own pizza bases & they cooked those for us with toppings at lunchtime.
It was my husband's birthday whilst onboard & they made us a GF birthday cake, we had GF Baked Alaska when they did the Baked Alaska parade, GF tempura vegetables, calamari; anything we needed the chef just told us to ask. We had to be pro-active & talk to the Head Waiter & chef but they couldn't have been more helpful.

My daughter (who is Coeliac) & I were lucky enough to get an excellent last minute bargain on the Thomson Celebration ship over Easter in the Canaries.
Yet again, even though there was only 1 Coeliac this time, they pulled out all the stops & catered really well for my daughter.
Breakfast was no problem; we ate in the buffet restaurant every day & there was plenty to chose from. The waiters would always spot my daughter & ask if she wanted toast brought to her.
For lunch on a couple of days we had taken some GFizza bases so they made pizza for her. They also made a GF pasta one day when we requested it. The rest if the time there were plenty of salads, meats, fruits & cheeses for her yo eat.
Evening meal we ate in the main dining room where they have a GF menu the same as everyone else. She got to chose what she wanted to eat on the night (not the night before like a lot of cruise lines). Because we have been on the ship several times, we know one of the senior chefs & he made GF calamari a couple if evenings & told us if we wanted anything special to just ask.
Cannot fault their attention, their helpfulness & their great service.
