Following a recommendation on this site, we took my son to Be Bop in Milan. The food was great - both GF and non GF. My son enjoyed his first pizza in a restaurant since he was diagnosed. Our friend who we were holidaying with said it was one of the best meals he had eaten in Italy! The staff were helpful and well informed. If you go to Milan - it's definitely worth a visit.

Milan Posted by Audrey on 26/7/2012 I visited Milan about four years ago. The GF food was wonderful. We ate at two places. Il Piccolo Padre, Via Cenisio 54, 20124 Milano Tel: 02-349-4906 - where they had pizzas and much, much more. I can’t find its website, so check it is still operating. However, it is still on the DS Pizza Point list. www.dspizzapoint.com/it/dove-trovo-un-ristorante-senza-glutine/ristorante-senza-glutine/piccolo-padre-lombardia/ As I remember, the entrance to this place was a little difficult to find, as it is round the corner in the next street. It is quite big and has tables in the street. Reasonably priced. Trattoria Casa Fontana 23 Risotti, Piazza Carbonari 5, 20125 Milano. Tel: 02-670-4710. The owner, or a close family member is coeliac. Choice of 23 risottos plus desserts to die for. I had three (tasters) – cherries cooked in red wine with cinnamon ice-cream, chocolate mouse and a fabulous strawberry gateau made with rice flour which tasted absolutely “normal”. I think booking here is essential, certainly it is advisable. We found the reception staff at the hotel we stayed at in Milan very helpful in phoning and booking tables for us and getting answers to our questions. A little out of the centre, but we made it by public transport. www.23risotti.it/ Seem to remember we had to ring the doorbell to get in. There is a well regarded fish restaurant we didn’t have time to try, with a coeliac proprietor, who also does GF desserts. La Rosa dei Venti, Via Piero della Francesca 34, Milano. Tel: 02-347-338 www.ristorantelarosadeiventi.it/english/pw_multi/gb_hp.htm All the above are certified by AIC, the Italian Coeliac Association. Their website lists more places to eat and stay in Milan. www.celiachia.it/DIETA/afc/RistorantiHotel.aspx?SS=95&M=99 scroll down to the bottom of the page to find the list. Enter “Lombardia” for the region and “Milano” for the province. Look all of them up on Tripadvisor for latest reviews. I’ve also just found this review on Tripadvisor for Ristorante Le Specialita, Via Pietro Calvi 29, Milano. Tel: 02-738-8235 www.ristorantelespecialita.com/ www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g187849-d1974713-r94895987-Ristorante_Le_Specialita-Milan_Lombardy.html and this for Be Bop, Viale Col di Lana 4, Milano. Tel: 02-837-6972 www.bebopristorante.com/ www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g187849-d940170-r125248458-Be_Bop-Milan_Lombardy.html Re: Milan - The view from the roof of the cathedral is supposed to be spectacular. A day trip to Lake Como is quite easy by train. If you particularly want to see “The Last Supper”, note that you have to book a long time in advance. Try and do it on-line before you go. By mistake, we went the wrong way on the circular tram – and got a good tour of the city in the process. You can get 24 hour and 48 hour travel tickets on public transport – click on “Transport” on this website for more information. www.italyheaven.co.uk/milan/home.html
