Coeliac baby
Posted by Mandy on 30/3/2006 GF board
I was diagnosed at 18 months and am now 29! Although I can't share any experiences as a mother, I just wanted to reassure you that I had a perfectly healthy and happy childhood and am a perfectly healthy adult (a little short but nice and slim!) As a child my strongest memories are not of being disadvantaged by being a coeliac but of all the lovely cakes and things my Mum baked for me! Also, often had nicer food than my friends as I was lucky enough to have a great primary school where the cooks made me special gluten free meals and even provided me with my own bottle of Heinz Tomato Ketchup! Things have also moved on a great deal in terms of the availability of gluten free food which, when I was small, could only be obtained by prescription and was horrible. So not so much need to be chained to the oven these days! There is much better selection and awareness.
Not trying to play down the difficulties of being a Coeliac but just wanted to reassure you that it's certainly not the end of the world.
