Succesful trip to Paris! Where I ate: McDonalds - BigMac meal with no bun at the McDonalds in the Louvre shopping complex. Pretty confused / bemused reaction from the staff but food was obtained and eaten and no ill effects.
Des Si et des Mets - GF restaurant in Montmartre area, very nice, not too pricey, had a lovely cheesecake to finish. Booked but it was pretty quiet on a Tuesday evening, you could have just walked in and got a table
Leon de Bruxelles - near montparnasse station, this chain just does variations on mussels and frites, and the waitress was very helpful, used my diet card and had a nice meal.
Le Relais d'entrecote - this chain just does steak! Steak and frites and their 'fameuse' sauce which I was told only contains butter and spices. Oh and a walnut salad to begin, with no dressing to be on the safe side. Was a bit worried about the sauce but I was fine in fact it was delicious, my favourite meal of the trip.
Natralia - for general GF goods there was one of these near where I stayed, in the Volontaires area. I found GF bread, crackers, cakes, all your usual bits and pieces. Also some meals you could take on the go e.g. rice and tuna salad.
Self-catered for breakfasts, usually took lunch with me, it was pretty good overall.

Posted by Ayesha on 11/1/2010, 18:54:48, in reply to "Paris -Coeliac friendly?" 90.208.50.X Hi, We just spent a week there in September and had written up a report but it hasn't been saved on the board. Monoprix in Rue Lecourbe (15th m sevres lecourbes) sells gluten free bread, pasta, biscuits if you get caught short. Lauderee - (m madeleine) the macaroons are gf as confirmed by lauderee louvre carousel - has a self service restaurant, although we had already eaten it would have been possible to find a gf meal there. Gare du Nord - we ate at the cafe at the station without problems Main chain eateries were fine: Flunch, Hippotaus (steak), Lionel something the mussels and chips restaurant As we had hired a flat it was easy to come home for meals. There are translations on the support board Posted by Heather... I've survived Paris a few times and had a great time there! La Vie Claire and Biocoop have some pretty great gluten-free products and there are quite a few around the central areas. Enjoy! Posted by Adi Hi there, check out www.davidlebovitz.com This is an American guy living in Paris and he has a really great website. I remember looking awhile back and he had a long list of gf places to eat but can't remember exactly where on the site it was posted. If you can find it, it is a great resource to have to hand.

Le Reminet, Paris (From Mireille, Delphi) Here is an excerpt from a post in the St-Johns Listserv: «A wonderful surprise was that the chef of what is my favorite restaurant in Paris, called LE REMINET, in the 5th, has a wife who is a Celiac! 3 rue des Grands-Degres. Tel 01 44 07 04 25- book ahead. It is closed Monday and Tuesday and I'm not sure if it is open for lunch. I can't tell you what a pleasure it was to feel 100% certain about everything he said. Tell the waiter that you can't eat wheat and he will get the chef to assist you in ordering. The food is wonderful, and the cost was 85 euro's for two, including wine. Also an extrememly friendly place.» ****************** (From Andrea , Delphi) ..unfortunately, like everyone in Paris (it seems), they are closed for most of the month of august. .................And for anyone traveling to Paris - this restaurant is on a little tiny side street so likely not very touristy, but right near the River Seine, just across from Notre Dame Cathedral. **************************************************************** Le Reminet 3 rue des Grands-Degrès, 5th tel: 01.44.07.04.24 Maubert-Mutualité or St-Michel. Gluten free in Paris - from St John's
Look for health food shops called La Vie Claire -- they carry a good selection of packaged GF foods (excellent bread, crackers, cookies, pasta, etc. -- even pastries that flake on your lap!). They are scattered all over Paris -- check the phone book for the closest address to where you are staying.
----
I always bring enough lunch for 2-3 meals. I put it in a soft sided shoulder strap cooler, with frozen juices and a small ice pack. It stays cool for one day. I bring cheese, muffins, sandwiches, almonds, an apple, etc...
----
i leave for paris in 3 weeks and been there before. my experience is most restaurant food does not have gluten if you can understand what the dish is, if you find a restaurant that has dishes described in english and someone there that speaks english there will be no problem, fish is best bet, they don't bread things there
----
My husband and I went to Paris last summer for a week and loved it.
Here is what I found successful.
I brought food with me to feel secure. it is not a necessity.
I brought Granola Bars from Energy Foods for breakfast.
For lunch I could have salad or an omelets.
For dinner I ordered either filet mignon or baked potatoes or fish (without flour) and baked potato.
I had excellent results. Enjoy!
---- the best gf bread we have ever had is sold in France. We found it in health food stores in Paris....the brand is "valpiform". Have a great time! We took a gf restaurant card in french, and did not have much trouble finding places to eat.

Paris Posted by Ayesha 10/08/05 GF board
Just come back from a brilliant week in Paris. Tortilla (spanish fat omlettes) seem to be all the rage. Virtually every supermarket had them as part of their ready cooked meals! Brilliant for us GFs!
...I found that for a cheap GF meal the food hall in the Louvre was actually great!!! They had plain rice at the chinese counter and you could pretty much get anything to go with it. They even had galettes de sarracin (proper buckwheat pancakes) there. I had quite a few meals out in restaurants and was fine...mainly grilled fish/ prawns etc ....

Paris Posted by Samantha Barnwell on 18/12/2006 GF board We went to la reminet, rue la grand degrees, by notre dame, left back. They really tried hard and it was lovely. My mum phoned before hand and explained and then booked so they were expecting us. I really really enjoyed it as did the rest of my family. the beef was lovely! I also went to the Chez Andre, rue marbeuf, just off the champs elysee. It is not a GF resurant, like anything is in paris, but it was extremly nice and helpful. Once again my mum phoned before hand and booked (which is needed as it is extremly busy) the matrie de (sos about the spelling) really really really helped and changed the menu for me. They helped everyone not just me (the seafood looked fantastic but i had a special verious of the sea bream that was not coated in the bread crumbs as all the others were.) The platters were huge and they did lots of more tradtional french dishes which were lovely. Both of these resurants were extremly helpful, and at lunch times i found that if you attempted to speak french then they were more than willing to help. Omlettes saved the day really at lunches. I would reccomed the tea shop within Pretemps dept. store. I couldn't have the cakes but my mum says they were amazing (that is if you can take the fact you cannot havethem) The prices of these resturants were modeart to expensive but the quality was grand! I loved it and i loved paris as well. ********************************************* Gluten-Free Eating and Dining in Paris …Check out a gluten-free restaurant. At last, a gluten-free restaurant has opened: Des Si et des Mets. It features multi-course menus as well as Sunday brunch. (63, rue Lepic, Tél: 01 42 55 19 61). Discover the first gluten-free épicerie in Paris! A gluten-free take-out and food shop has finally opening in Paris: Biosphäre, located at 57, rue St. Maur (Tél: 01 48 06 08 81). I haven't been in there yet, but it's likely a haven for those on gluten-free diets. … www.davidlebovitz.com/archives/2 ... _eati.html ************************************************* Posted by Heather (NL) on 11/1/2010 GF board I've survived Paris a few times and had a great time there! An excellent experience! I took a translation with me.
We travelled Eurostar, Leisure Select and I was provided with an improvised gf meal on the outward journey as I hadn't booked in time. It was vegetable salad followed by raspberry meringue - the early afternoon 'light meal' on the 14.04 from St Pancras.
On the return journey today (12.13)I was given a gorgeous lamb curry dish and a very chocolatty dessert. The staff were very clearly gf aware.
We stayed at the Hotel Mercure Eiffel Suffren, which is so near to the Eiffel Tower. They toasted my bread and I took gf cereal in, too but really it wasn't necessary as there was so much gf food available on the buffet. It tok a little while to get across the idea of toasting the bread as they just refreshed it the first time but they did eventually succeed.
We ate at 38 Eiffel on the corner of rue Suffren for the first night and I had a sort of beef kebab with chips, yes, gf! Price around 14 Euro. The second night we walked further up the street to try a different place and it was even better although more pricey (E23 for a two course meal). I had the most delicious lamb steak in a sauce followed by ice cream swimming in amaretto. For our last night we went to Riva (also on rue Suffren) and had a two-course meal for 19.50 euro. This time I had Salmon steak followed by a nougat ice cream and raspberry coulis.
It was great to be able to walk off the street and be catered for so cheerfully. Each of the three restaurants adapted their plat de jour for me and, of course, the wine was delicious!
Well, Steve, they let me back into the UK but don't be too disappointed, I'll be going away again!
I'll try and put this on the Supp board, Lyn.

David Lebovitz Helmut Newcake, Gluten-Free Bakery in Paris....The friendly fellow behind the counter said that France was un peu retard when it comes to gluten-free offering. But at Helmut Newcake, they’re off to a good start catching up. I wasn’t expecting traditional French pastries, but more things in the American tradition, like crisps, snack cakes, and cookies, but was surprised (and delighted) to see they hit the right notes with French classics, including one of the best canelés I’ve ever had. Gf in Paris - recommendations? Posted by Annie on 24/10/201 GF board Helmut Newcake is a dedicated GF patisserie and is fairly central near a metro station this is the address 36 Rue Bichat 75010 Paris they have a website www.helmutnewcake.com/and a facebook page. It has absolutely amazing food, you will not be able to decide what to have and will never want to leave! Its not too expensive, the drinks were the biggest spend, but you can get your cakes boxed to eat elsewhere. We also went to NoGLu which is a GF restaurant, this was more expensive 30 euros for a 3 course meal and the menu was quite 'grown up' so might not suit ...kids ...

Paris Posted by Lara on 10/3/2014 GF board I was in Paris over the weekend and as a GF vegetarian it wasn't easy! My husband got to eat all that wonderful bread they serve with every meal. I have to highly recommned Helmut Newcake which is a GF bakery - the cakes were wonderful and they do meals too. Well worth finding it out as it's a bit hidden. No Glu was 100% GF and did have a veggie option but was expensive. We spent nearly Euros 100 on a meal for two but the food was good. Cafe Pinson are GF, veggie and very healthy - a bit too healthy for me but looked good. They have two shops in Paris. Fee Nature was recommended but they only open 12-4 and I got there at about 3.59 and they were shut. Their website says they close at 6.00. Papy Bio was also shut for renovation work. There's a veggie restaurant very close to Notre Dame, Le Grenier, which will do something GF but I didn't eat there. I asked in 2 McDonalds for GF buns so I could have an egg McMuffin but they didn't know anything about GF bread. I think if you stick to plain meat, fish, salad and veg you should be fine. And the Laduree macaroons are GF but again, expensive at 1 euro 90 for one mini one!! ..... ********************************************** Helmut Newcake 36, rue Bichat Paris (75010) MÉTRO : Goncourt & République TEL : 09 82 59 00 39 EMAIL : helmutnewcake@gmail.com www.helmutnewcake.com/contact/******************* NOGLU - Restaurant et épicerie sans gluten 16, passage des Panoramas – 75002 Paris contact@noglu.fr - tél. : 01 40 26 41 24 www.noglu.fr/contact-2/
