Gateshead Quayside - La Riviera We had a wonderful meal here last night and I'd encourage anyone visiting Gateshead/Newcastle to try it out. (Gateshead side of the Swing Bridge but park on the Newcastle side) The chef is aware if special dietry needs and for us, has gf flour in his kitchen. He will make gf pizza or get in pasta if given a few days notice. He said I could have most of what was on the main menu as he would adapt the sauce. We ate here prior to diagnosis, two years ago, and liked it then. We like it even more now! If you look at the website, www.lariviera.co.uk you will see food to tickle your tastebuds! Yes, I recommend it! Vee

I thought this was useful for the Geordies around! When I called at the Metro Centre on 17th Sept 2003I asked at the help desk for information on suitable places to have a gf meal. No joy! I filled in a comments sheet and suggested it would be helpful for people on special diets if this facility could be arranged. I also referred them to the Bath Tourism website for ideas.
This is the reply I received today. "Dear Mrs Woodhouse,
Thank you for your comments regarding the provision of special dietary information at MetroCentre.
Firstly please allow me the opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience that this matter may have caused you.
As a direct response to your suggestion we are currently surveying all cafes, restaurants and bars within MetroCentre to compile a database of special dietary availability for MetroCentre Customers.
This information will be available from MetroCentre’s Customer Services Desks and we are currently investigating the possibility of posting this information to the Centres website.
Thank you once again for taking the time to inform us of this issue and if you require any further information or would like to discuss the matter further please do not hesitate to contact the Centre’s Customer Services Co-ordinator, June Bell, at this office.
Many thanks once again for making such a useful suggestion.
Yours Sincerely
RON WOODMAN GENERAL MANAGER For and on behalf of CSC MetroCentre Ltd"
It will be really good to have this for all the visitors to the Metro Centre and, as it is on the main A1 to Scotland, would also be good for people travelling!
If you go to the Metro Centre to eat, will you pleaselet me know how you got one? Thanks Vee

Wetherspoon have a list of food suitable for Coeliacs. The waitress printed it off from the computer for me. In Gateshead Metro Centre you can get the indian dishes on a Thursday. She didn't know why not at any other time. Vee

la tasca Posted by tracy (co durham) on 6/9/2006
i went to la tasca on newcastle quay side today with my mum. their menu is clearly marked G.F and V. neither my mum or myself had eaten or ordered Tapas, so was not aware that they did not come with a side portion. we orded the chicked wings and omlette. we felt stupid when the food arrived. we only had a small slice of omlette and 6 tiny chicken wings, between the two of us!!! Yep, we were starving (i brought a bag of crisps and a mars bar later when we arrived in south shields). we wondered why the waitress looked at us strange when we only ordered two tapas. Well the food was delicious and i will visit again but next time i will order more food!!!!
