Jacksons Landing, Hartlepool, Cleveland (From Lynda, edited) Just wanted to let you know that we had a lovely GF meal at "Jacksons Wharf" pub/restaurant at Jacksons Landing, Hartlepool. I explained to bar staff what we needed & she brought out a leaflet with all their foods listed on it that were safe. We couldn't have the steak(!!!) as it was packaged near non GF foods, so had gammon. The kids had GF fish fingers, made by Findus. So we all enjoyed a safe GF meal, with no ill effects! ************************************************* Judges Hotel, Yarm Posted by Sue I had a lovely meal on Sunday at Judges. They told me which items on the Menu I could have, Lots of Choice. i couldn't have any of their Canapies so the gave me a plate of Fruit. Very Nice would recommend. Re: Judges Hotel, Yarm Posted by Andy on 14/6/2004 on GF board
I can thoroughly recommend Judges. My sister's wedding reception was there a month or so back and they were very understanding and prepared for all dietary requests. It is also a great hotel and for those from far away it is close to the North Yorks Moors, which is a lovely area and well worth a visit. Just thought I'd do a tourism selling job for my home town.

Eating Out Posted by Sue on 11/6/2005 GF board
... I'd like to mention a restaurant to avoid. The Restaurant is: Riverside Restaurant and Lounge in Yarm, Cleveland. This restaurant was recommended to us by someone who knew the chef. We had eaten in another restaurant that the chef had worked in and he had been really helpful. When we booked they said they were happy to cater for coeliacs and that there would be plenty of items that I could eat and that they would be flexable. Anyway to cut a long story short they weren't that helpful, there were 2 starters and 3 mains on the menu that I could have, they didn't offer me alternatives and a couple of the items they weren't sure if they were safe or not (not sure why Headchef didn't know what was in his own food). I wasn't ill afterwards but I did feel abit worried while I was eating and my Husbands meal (not a Coeliac, wasn't that nice either). Give it a miss

Just to let you know I have eaten twice at the above restaurant and they have been really helpful. The food is delicous. They marked up the menu for me and could eat most things. One warning though you can not book here, and as its quite a small restaurant it gets really busy, so come early. Please note: I have not tried to eat there at lunch time and am unsure of what their lnch menu is like.

Rigatonis Restaurant Posted by Jane on 5/2/2006
GF board
I have a 3 year old daughter, diagnosed at 22 months, and we have always been keen to eat out as a family but have found this difficult with dietary restrictions. We have recently eaten out a Joe Rigatonis Italian restaurant in Stockton on Tees. All were very accommodating and happy to cook our own gf pasta and pizza bases. So heres to all locals coeliacs enjoying a relaxing meal out! Rigatonis also in Yarm, Darlington, Middlesbrough, Harrogate but have not eaten there as yet so not sure as to how accommodating they may be.

reopened earlier this year and after a few trials am happy to recommend. They have lots of Gluten Free Cakes etc and you can order things as well. We've got an order of Plain GF scones to pick up at tea time as they only sell fruit ones, so are doing a special batch for me.All of their sandwiches are available on a choice of gluten free bread, and they usually have a gluten free soup available. I noticed the other day that they had added some gluten free meals to the menu quiche and salad (had a takeaway quiche for work was really nice but pastry a bit heavy), Frusslie with Tomato and Basil, Lasagna and Sag Bol. Had the Lasagna last night was lovely. They would prefer that you book the pasta meals in advance. They are open till 5.30pm Monday - Saturday and 4.30pm on a Sunday. They are very generous with cake and quiche slices and they don't charge extra for Gluten free. I have been told that a coeliac group meets there regularly.
