Gluten Free Playdough
Ready made Gluten free playdough
Posted by Caralee on 24/9/2006
GF board
I have found some gluten and wheat free playdough available through mail order from a UK company. To be found at www.scolaquip.co.uk under modeling materials - soft dough which is £7.16 for 2.4 kg bucket containing 8 colours. The delivery is £6.50 so you may want to order some other supplies too.
Apparently they make this product for the Discount School Supplies site in USA which has great reviews and anyone who has tried to find gluten free dough via google will be familiar with only to find we do not deliver out of US!
I do make my own (from the C-uk recipe, quite sucessfully) but can not compete with the range of colours supplied comercially. ....
My little one cant wait for some new colours my blue green and pink dont come out quite right. Although I make up for this with loads of added glitter, which playschool was quite happy with (as we have to supplie them with suitable playdough for my daughter).

I use sugar craft colours. They are much stronger and you get the colour it says on the label.

Gluten-Free Play Dough (Clay dough)
This recipe for what we call play dough was on the Clan Thompson (USA)

2 cups GF flour

food colouring
put everything in a saucepan and cook very low until mixture firms up (keep stirring).
Then knead it. Keeps for months.

Plain white GF flour
From Joyce on GF board 20/8/2003
Got the receipe for play dough off the support board but need some
help..it talks about plain white flour can'nt find any in the prescibable list
does the bread/cake mixes work just as well (I normally use glutafin
mixes ).Thanks

Trufree No.6 is a plain white flour, so is Doves Farm GF flour, but quite
honestly I think any bread mix would work just as well. I've also made it
with maize meal and/or rice flour with good results. Just don't try potato
flour - it turns into a big ball of jelly!

For GF playdough: mix 1 cup rice flour, 1 cup corn flour, 1 cup salt,
4 tablespoons cream of tartar, 2 cups water, 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
and a bit of food colouring (to choice!) in pan.
Cook over low heat for a few minutes, stirring all the time.
The mixture gradually firms up until it looks like dough.
When it has got fairly solid, take it off the heat and knead on a table or
pastry board.
This feels really nice because it is still warm.
I usually just put in 2 cups of whatever GF flour I happen to have,
rather than using rice/corn specifically. It does vary a bit in texture
depending on the flour though.
It will keep for ages in an airtight tub.
