Sid Valley Country House Hotel Address: Sidbury, NR. Sidmouth, Devon EX10 OQJ Telephone: 01395 597587 or 597274 www.sidvalleyhotel.co.uk/home.asp *********** Sidmouth Posted by Sian north wales on 1/7/2006 GF board .......noticed a request for eating in the Sidmouth area. We have only just come back from there and I can highly recommend Neil's restaurant next to the cinema in Sidcombe(fish orientated but there are a few other choices)but book as it gets busy. Also the Masons Arms in Branscombe- a very pretty pub. We did find by chance the shop in the market where I bought a GF date cake but in the Honiton branch there was a bigger choice of eats so I bought an apricot slice there and even better whilst hubby was having his more or less daily warm Cornish pastie I had a warmed nut rissole from the shop. we had hoped to get to th Salty Monk but time just ran out. ........ ******** Posted by Jules on 1/7/2006 ......The name of the Healthfood shop in Sidmouth is "Ganesha wholefoods Ltd". Again, there were lots of nice GF cake there today (including the apricot slice!) They also stock the GF, dairy free Swedish Glace ice cream and Cornettos which they sell individually. As Sian says, they also have a branch in Honiton as well as Axminster, Devon. I have posted the link to their website Link: www.ganeshawholefoods.co.uk ****************

Sidmouth, Devon. From Sue: The Salty Monk at Sidford, nr Sidmouth is recommended by CUK and I think it advertises in the Crossed Grain magazine From Jules: .....if you go to the top of the town in Sidmouth, opposite Somerfield, there is an indoor market which has a health food shop inside - they stock an excellent range of GF products including home made cakes including chocolate brownies, date slices, apricot & coconut slices & apricot cake - we were there about 3 weeks ago and stocked up for the freezer but will be going back for regular top-ups this summer!! They are very reasonably priced too - we paid no more than 69p a large slice & VERY yummy. They also have started to stock some of the G Free range of breads, cakes etc - G Free are based in Honiton not far from Sidmouth - it may be worth contacting them before you go to see if you can place an order and call in & pick it up - never tried it but always meant to!! **************** Sidmouth - good place! Posted by Jules on 21/3/2010 GF board We went to Sidmouth Devon & found a lovely "eatery" not far from the seafront. It is principaly an ice-cream shop with a few tables to take in. The ice cream is all locally made & lovely - the majority of the flavours are GF - they all were when we visited. They also do GF cones which are the nice waffle type cones. Cones were £1.90 with loads of ice cream, we ate in and had an ice-cream sundae-which was too much really-with 2 flavours of ice cream for £2.50 or 3 flavours for £3.50. They also do Jacket Potatoes & for the non-coeliacs very reasonable freshly prepared sandwiches & bread rolls. They also stock Honeybuns cakes and their coffee is good too! Also noticed another cafe/restaurant further up from the seafront (walking towards cinema) advertising a GF menu. Apologies, didn't remember the name of it but there's at least 2 places to eat in Sidmouth! ********* From Karen: Fields of Sidmouth which is a dept store also has a very good gf menu and they are hoping to do gf pasta bakes soon. ************** From Jules: Just found this! www.tasteofsidmouth.co.uk/ ***************** From Sue Yes, I had a wonderful icecream here back last autumn when I was on a coach trip for a day. It was huge, in a cone….. ********************** Eating out gets better - Sidmouth again! Posted by Jules on 4/4/2010 GF board Returned to Sidmouth again yesterday: could have completely pigged ourselves on GF food! Had lunch in Fields (Dept store) as recommended on here a couple of weeks ago by someone. The coeliacs had GF Panitta (cross between Panini & Pitta). Could have had GF soup also & usual jackets. There were 3 GF sweets but saved ourselves for later! Wandered around Sidmouth, found a pasty shop that sold GF pasties (Georges from memory - up a little lane in the town, well signposted) then wandered further & found about 3 or more places with GF cakes, ice creams etc then we ended up at the end of the day in Taste for GF ice cream sundaes (enormous!) and they also do GF ice-cream cones in Taste. Don't know if they have a high population of Coeliacs in Sidmouth but this is how it shoule be in every town; just shows that it CAN be done and how easily!
