Cornwall - St Michaels Mount - the National Trust

Thanks for all your tips on quick and easy meals in a caravan! We had lots of rice and added onion for flavour to various concoctions, which I have not done before. (Last evening was a gourmet 3 course meal of leftovers - rice and pilchard starter, beans and cheese on toast for main course, followed by custard and apricots for dessert!)
Catering was not too difficult as never far from a chip shop or ice cream kiosk, and restocked with gf bread at Morrisons in Penzance.
The highlight of the holiday gf-wise was the Sail Loft Restaurant at St Micheals mount. GF bread rolls were available and they kindly made Sam some ham sandwiches, does not sound too exciting really but after days of baked potatoes was a find! The snag is you have to get across the causeway to the restaurant, either by ferry or at low tide by walking, but I don't think you have to pay to go into the castle in order to go to the restaurant.
St Michaels mount is a spectacular National Trust property. We ate out mostly at national trust cafe's as they are always good quality and we have NT membership so can get into places free. There are several NT properties in Cornwall, not all have cafes, but all provide good entertainment for the family.
The most spectacular NT cafe was at Kynance cove, looking out over a fantasitc view of the beach. Sam had Baked potato and huge milkshakes, with yummy ice creams later! (milkshake can be a risk I know but as NT tend to use good ingredients we went for it, with no ill effects).
(I only had to resort to the protein balls once, and then it was not all eaten, just got rid of hunger pangs and irritability until proper food could be organised. )
For anyone with primary school age children I would recommend joining the NT early in the year (April) when you can get a really good deals on membership. The cafe's are not cheap but usually can provide a substantial and healthy gf meal, and often have gf cakes as well.
