Eating out in Truro
Posted by May on 28/9/2007 GF board
On my recent holiday to Mevagissey, we visited Truro and found a fabulous cafe. It's called Cafe Elia and caters for mainly gluten free and wheat free. It even has food for "normal" people LOL. I had tomato and bean soup with the best GF bread I've ever had, and a lovely coffee and walnut cake. They have a great menu, everything is marked clearly. But best of all, there are no worries about eating because these people really know their stuff, and they are a real friendly bunch. It is near the cathedral, so head for there, once you are at the Cathedral look for Next and the library and it is down there. There are signs for the cafe. Please visit if you get chance, you won't be disappointed.

I live in Cornwall and would like to recommend :- Cafe Elia - Church Walk, Truro. They do a selection of gluten free foods ranging from cakes, gluten free meals on toast, soup etc John Becks Fish and Chip Restaurant, Longstone Hill, Carbis Bay, St Ives, tel: 01736 796241. They use gluten free batter from: www.batterbox.co.uk/gluten-free-news/ I ate here this weekend and it was the first battered fish that I had eaten since 1990 and it was delicious. I had a hard job accepting that it was gluten free as it looked and tasted so nice! The restaurant staff were very aware of the coeliac condition and contamination. ....

Truro - Cornwall Posted by Carly on 17/8/2014, 20:10:32 I have two new places for you to try for snacks: Lavenders is just opposite and just a little bit further on than Argos in Truro and has been taken over by new people who now offer gluten free sandwiches (Tesco brown and white bread) and DS ciabatta rolls. They also do gluten free cakes. I was amazed when I was taken to Oscars. These people really know their stuff! Oscars is located in Lemon Street market and the two ladies who run it were really clued up on gf and were really friendly and did not mind my dozens of questions. They always have gf bread, cakes, brownies, soups, pasties etc on offer and knew all about 20 parts per million and the new food labelling. They have a different kitchen to prepare gf in and in this small cafe they have a different oven/utensils available for all the gf orders. All foods are covered in glass domes and their coffee is lovely. You can contact them at www.oscarstruro.co.uk When I am next in Truro and feeling peckish I will make another visit

Oscars don't have a website at the moment. Their number is 01872 240046 and, in case you need to know, they are dog friendly.
