Fish and Chips- Cornwall Posted by Peter (Stirling) on 6/7/2004 GF board Just had an email from Rick Stein,s Fish and Chip shop in Padstow Cornwall. "I have checked with one of the girls in our Fish and Chip shop as her daughter is Coeliac. She has confirmed that the chips are cooked searetly from the battered fish. Also grilled fish is available - John Dory, Mackerel,Bass, Tuna, Squid or Monkfish. They can't grill Cod or Haddock as it loses too much water. So I am pleased to say that fish and chips from Stein's Fish and Chip Shop would be fine for you and the girls when you are down on holiday. Regards." **************************************************** Stein's Fish & Chips South Quay Monday to Saturday 12 noon to 2:30pm 5:00pm to 9:00pm Closed on Wednesdays www.rickstein.com/fishandchips.htm

Rick's chip shop chips are safe to eat. I was very excited at the thought of having chip shop chips for the first time in donkeys years and they didn't disappoint! His restaurants/cafe are also gluten aware (although a bit pricey!) ****************** www.rickstein.com/restaurants_st ... dchips.htm **************** Posted by Ric on 7/7/2006, GF board , in reply to "eating out gf around Padstow? - especially fish and chips!?" We stayed at one of Rick Stein's hotels in Pastow for a week last year and ate in every single one of his restaurants (about 5 of them). They all catered exceptionally well for gf - we just took an info sheet for the chef saying what to avoid. Chat to the manager first. Warning - book well in advance as it gets busy. Mention your allergy when booking. As for the fish and chip shop - good news - the chips are fried separately from everything else so you can eat them! This was confirmed by the general manager and there was no ill effect. You cant have the battered fish, but you can have the steamed fish - it was confirmed there is no contamination from other utensils. ************************** Last edited by Lyn G on Fri Jul 07, 2006 4:58 pm, edited 1 time in total.
