Looe & Polperro, Cornwall Whilst on holiday in Cornwall we visited a few restaurants. Whilst none of them specifically stated that they catered for coeliacs, two of them in particular coped without a problem. Nelson's Restaurant (01503 272366) in the delightful village of Polperro was excellent, while Ye Olde Cottage Restaurant, Middle market Street, Looe (01503 262770) was familiar with the needs of coeliacs and had a particularly friendly atmosphere. www.polperro.co.uk/html/nelsons.html www.ggfi.co.uk/news_items.htm#Ho ... estaurants

********************** Tea Clipper - Looe Posted by Toddy on 3/11/2006 GF Board We have just returned from a weekend in Looe. We had a lovely time, but it was a bit disappointing on the food front. First we went to Polperro to visit the Tea Clipper Tea Rooms. Info is on the supp board. However, we got there but it was closed. I am not sure if it has closed down or just closed for the season, but the inside was bare of furniture and the sign (which said Gluten Free, diatetics catered for - boo hoo) had paint peeling and looked a bit neglected. It was such a shame as we had planned to buy loads of stuff from there. Does anybody know if it is still open? Other eating establishments in Looe were not helpful at all. I have never experienced people being negative towards the girls or coeliacs in general but one restaurant virtually pushed us out of the door - "everything we do contains wheat. We had somebody like you come in a few weeks ago asking the same thing". I was so upset. I am not normally lost for words, but it just gutted me to come across somebody so unhelpful. Laura was stood right next to me as well. For everyones information the place was called The Golden Guinea. Don't go there! However, The Smugglers Cott in Looe were fantastic and we were there two nights running. They catered for the girls, made us feel welcome and we had no problems afterwards. We also found only one chippy that fried their chips seperately - Kelly's. Another recommendation - we stayed at a hotel called the Trehaven Manor Hotel. They were fantastic. We supplied the bread and sausages and they made sure everthing was cooked seperately (even a seperate toaster) and no contamination issues. Even gave the girls some Gluten Free sweets when we left. ************* Re: GF in Looe Posted by Pauline on 27/5/2008 GF board Just been in Beautiful Looe for the past two weeks and before we went I was worried about not being able to fully enjoy it because of CD but we had a fantastic time. When we first arrived the smells from all the pasty and cream tea shops was so hard. We went to Bodmin and had cream tea which was lovely although their pasties and sausage rolls where not very nice. There is however a place called Sarah's pasty shop in the centre of Looe and she makes pasties, quiches and pies to order. The pastry was great, the quiche and fruit pies where gorgeous but the pasty was a bit dry. Maybe its just a matter of taste. I did get chips from Kelly's chippy and that was great. The best meal however was at Mawgans of Looe. We went there for my birthday and everything was fabulous. 90% of the menu is GF. All he sauces, soups and gravies are. I didn't like the soup that was on so she offered to make me another type. they supplied GF bread and the desert was to die for. They staff explained everything and made a fuss because it was my birthday. I would highly recommend this place, its not cheap but it is well worth what you pay. We're going back to Looe twice next year and I can't wait already…. …details are as follows: Sarahs Pasty shop is on Buller Street, East Looe. If you order any pasty, pie etc she will make them to your taste and you collect them to suit you. Kelly's Chip Shop, Main Street, East Looe. The chips are fried on their own so they are fine and very nice. Mawgans of Looe, Higher Market Street, East Looe PL13 1BS - Tel 01503 265331 email: mawgans@btconnect.com web: www.mawgan.co.uk Fantastic place nothing is too much trouble.

Recommended Sarah's Cake Shop Looe Posted by liz on 16/7/2011
GF board
Guys,
Just back from Cornwall and we found Sarah's Cake Shop in Looe
Buller Street, East Looe, Cornwall
01503 263 973
They had a big sign in the window - Gluten Free Cakes and even though we got there just as they were closing we were able to buy two big, fat rock cakes (one cherry and coconut and one sultana) along with a fab cherry and almond loaf cake for just over £5. I would have been hard pushed to make the loaf cake for what they charged.
Wonderful

I have just have come back from a weeks stay in looe, Cornwall and it was lovely. I stayed at the Dolphin guesthouse, its really lovely and they do a lovely gf breakfast, they are very clued up on coeliac disease. In looe itself, Sarah's pasty shop on the harbour do delicious gf pasties though you would need to order the day before as they make them fresh every morning. Most resturaunts can cater for gf, but it advisable to book the day before. We could eat at the golden guinea, it had a gf menu of pub grub, steaks, curry chilli, and roasts with gf gravy, though not gf chips that was reasonably priced, and we could get a table easily on the day. Papa Nino,s do a gf pasta and it was delicious. We went to St. Ives for the day, and I had a delicious gf cream tea in the Tearoom, right on the harbour. They do gf sandwiches, savoury tarts and soups as well.luckily there is a Pizza Express on the harbour front too, so I could have a pizza as well. Lots of lovely gf ice cream too. I was a bit hesitant about eating out instead of self catering, but it worked out really well.
