GF board
Spent a night near here on Friday night and was recommended to visit this pub as their food was good. Nice atmosphere when we went in with gentle background music and no large screen TV so my kind of place. Good menu of pub favourites and when I asked the delightful young man about GF choices, his eyes lit up and he took a seat next to me and launched! His partner, the chef, is coeliac so he was very knowledgeable and obviously the food would be prepared in the right way too. Lovely meal with lots of options and my partner had a home-made steak and ale pie (not GF sadly) which he said was excellent. They found me some Heinz ketchup from their own fridge for my chips (proper home made ones with skin on - lovely) as he wasn't sure about the one for general use. I was really full but then he offered some GF sticky toffee pudding and ice cream. Decided to have one to share and out came a HUGE double portion and it was really good.
This pub deserves to do really well. It has a good feel about it, excellent home-cooked food and charismatic and enthusiastic staff. They have been managing the pub for five years, but like many others, they are suffering during the recession. It was Friday night and they were not full and they should be! Apart from being delighted to be offered such a choice, it would be an excellent place for bigger groups as there is something for all tastes. Sounds like an advert I know, but guarantee I have no link to them and just want them to do well as they are obviously so passionate about making this pub a success.
