Saturday lunchtime my wife and I were lunching in the Meadows
Restaurant in Stamford, Lincolnshire, my home town which we visit
from time to time to see my aging mother. We have eaten there
several times and I never have a problem selecting GF dishes.
On Saturday there were about 20 diners (lunchers?) when we overheard
a conversation between a newly arrived lady and the waiter - "I'm a
coeliac - can you guide me through the menu?" Without hesitation the
youngish lad launched into "-- all our sauces are thickened with
cornflour, there are breadcrumbs on the....and so on" In fact the
only slip up he made was to say the sausages were OK which the lady
promptly corrected him on. It was most impressive.
I had intended to chat with the lady in question to share experiences
but as she was in the middle of her main course and our car park time
was about to over-run we didn't. If you are on this group, we were
the couple in the window table.
What was remarkable I thought at the time was that if 1 in 100 people
have CD, then to find 2 in 20 in the same restaurant randomly and
simultaneously must be something of a record.

GF board
…went to Burghley House on Good Friday for the day and visited the cafe there. Didn't have a meal but discovered they do gf cakes, about 3 different ones were available, but they put different ones out each day. They also had gf crisps. I had a very nice and filling chocolate brownie and was really impressed so thought I'd come on here and recommend it to you. I would imagine some of the meals would be okay too but didn't ask. The house was also very magnificent and the shop was very good. A great day out basically! (Sorry for sounding a bit tour guide like there....
