great food in NE scotland Posted by jackieK on 8/12/2008 GF board I went out wih some patchwork sewing buddies last week to a new cafe/restaurant for early christmas lunch. We prebooked and i had ordered salmon lunch. when it came it was a beautiful piece of salmon cooked with fresh herbs. along with vegtables and a choice of new, roast and/or chipped potatoes I was presented with 2 puddings. rice desert made with soya milk (i'm egg and dairy free as well as GF.) also 2 pears pached in red wine served with cinnamon and syrup sauce, surrounded by poached berries. The whole thing was wonderful. i couldn't leave any and didn't eat again until next day i was so full. The restaurant is new and on all my visits i've been given GF food with no problem even without prebooking. If your in the area try the Aurora, Strathlene, Buckie, Moray. It sits on the sea shore by seal island with great views north. going again this week. hope restored in GF catering. GF board
Went out for a meal at the weekend. we went to Ragamuffins in Buckie (Moray, Scotland) and had the most fantastic G.F. meal. On arriving at the menu i was presented with a Gluten Free menu which had a choice of starters, which included chilli prawns, mushrooms in creamy pepper sauce and antipasto misto (italian meats. 7 main coarses plus the usual steaks etc. How about pan fried fillets of beef with red wine, mushroom, baby onion and smoky bacon sauce. But i had grilled duck breast with rich orange sauce. fantastic. a selection of puddings and i had a poached pear coated in hot chocolate with real vanilla ice cream. best meal i have had out in ages and all for less than £20 a head including wine, beers and coffee. just wanted to share that with you all. i am lucky enough to live only 10 minutes away in Cullen so will now be a regular. as it is also a popular holiday destination i hope it is of use to someone else.
