birmingham - good news

GF board
stayed in birmingham at the weekend (wetherlodge - not recommended, cheap and convenient but dirty). however we ate at La Tasca and like others on this board found it brilliant (3 portions of tapas each were too much). Sian had the paella, langoustine and anchovies and I had the tortilla omelette, chicken kebab (not gf) and lamb casserole. only downside is there is no no-smoking area.
we also found another restaurant by the bullring shopping centre called del villaggio. it is an italian deli with a restaurant upstairs specialising in rustic italian fare. anyone from Brum been there? the menu is clearly marked with gf items (with a good choice) and THEY DO GF PASTA - most of the pasta dishes were available with gf pasta. unfortunately we were too full to eat there - but next time...

GF board
I went to a friends's wedding at the botanical gardens yesterday. As well as being a lovely place, I was extremely impressed with the meal I had. Starter was Pea Soup (obviously home made) which was really tasty. The staff who brought the bread rolls round asked everyone if they had any special dietary requirements, when I said I was GF they went and fetched me a GF bread roll, then arranged the cutlery so that the other staff knew I was GF & veggie. The main course was absolutely gorgeous. I had aubergine parcels, which contained mushrooms & spinach, potato dauphinoise and baby veg, with a lovely tomato & balsamic sauce. followed by a lovely fruit salad. The happy couple had advised them in advance of my dietary requirements, but honestly they couldn't have been more helpful & I didn't feel different at all. My friend who was sitting next to me said she was quite jealous cos mine looked so nice! I definitely be going back there 11 out of 10 to them

Hi
The address is
Barnt Green Fish Bar
85, Hewell Rd, Barnt Green, Birmingham, West Midlands B45 8NL
Tel: 0121 445 3425
I go about once a month and it is really nice. The staff know what they are doing and use different scoops, tongs and paper for the gluten and gluten free stuff. I tend to over eat when I go last time I got battered sausage, mini fish, potatoes scallop and chips and eat every little bit
